It lives!
Core 2 has blue screened twice, but that was before I fixed the memory voltages (some stuff was really over-volted) and installed the new drivers. It's been rock solid since, except for once where it went into suspend mode when I wanted a shut down. down freaks who actually like to suspend to disk. sheesh.

So.... Vista... the resource hog... uses a grand 3% of my CPU. My exhaust temp is about... 1 degree above room temp :)

That said, I won't win any awards for looks. It's a FULL TOWER. and I can see right through it across the motherboard. Runs cool, though :)

I have heard mention of it being a resource hog but I don't know much of the specifics. I just know some assholes claim to have run a test and found that 2000 > XP > Vista in terms of performance. It could always be a MacOS, Linux, or *insert OS here* troll. I understand it to depend largely on what system the stuff is optimized for.

What I want to know is how much control they have over media on there. All the windows genuine (dis)advantage bs and the copy right protection and such. Supposedly it can decide what it wants to let you burn or not burn and play or not play, although I think that might be skirted with some 3rd party or free lance software. How much of it is true, how much of it is a hassle?

Nice exhaust temp! I remember when my exhaust temp was 168f. It's around 95 - 100 now with the new fan. Damn Athlon XPs run hot as hell, or my case fan just sucks, or both. I was thinking about buying me an FX-62 but I may hold out for a Core 2 yet with what you and most people are telling me here. Gotta get a job...

the only sign I've seen of any content protection is a big long document on how to protect your privacy, included by MS, which mostly deals with how DRM updates affect your privacy, and a "buy" link way off in the corner of WMP when playing an mp3. Easily ignored, because it's like 15 pixels tall and 45 wide.
